Put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:24 (NKJV)
Are you so results-oriented that all you think about is doing?
Wanting to get a lot done isn’t a bad thing. But, if all you’re worried about is what you’re doing for God, you might miss the main thing. You might get a lot done, but this Christian walk is about more than doing.
Your destiny is not all about what God has for you to do. Your destiny is to become like Jesus in how you live your life and in what you believe. And, as you focus on this, don’t worry! God will have things for you to do!
The truth is I never wanted to be a senior pastor. My goal in life was to serve under my dad for the rest of my life. At first, I was a volunteer in his church. Later, I became the youth pastor and then an associate pastor. I didn’t care what people called me; I was happy to be on the team. I was prepared to back my dad until we were both old and grey. I wasn’t worried about what I was going to do. I just loved God and kept growing in Him.
The thing is, when you keep growing in God, eventually you can’t help but do things for Him. When I received the opportunity to be a senior pastor, it wasn’t because I had been trying to do “senior pastoring.” I had become one.
Keep building your relationship with God and keep studying His Word so you can “put off” the old and “put on” new, God-based beliefs, values and priorities. Then, nothing will stop you from doing what God has for you to do!
