Out Of Touch?

I will send you the Holy Spirit just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven. Luke 24:49 (NLT)

Some Christians are really good at being contemporary, but they have lost touch with the Spirit. They have plenty of rapport with people, but don’t seem to try to work with or hear from God’s Spirit.

The problem is that without Holy Spirit, they have no access to His miracle producing power. Without Him, they offer very little to truly help hurting, lost people who need more than psychological comfort for the pain they’re in.

This is why Jesus told His disciples to wait in Jerusalem to receive Holy Spirit before heading out into their world. We need Holy Spirit. He gives us the ability to bring His miraculous power into every situation.

Jesus walked the planet full of Holy Spirit’s power, and people followed Him because of it. There was nothing He couldn’t do. He was never thrown off, at a loss for words or confused about what to do.

As a result, Jesus had a powerful edge to Him. This complete obedience to Holy Spirit required incredible courage and resolve, and He was full confidence. We’ve made Jesus seem like a cute teenage boy rather than the amazing, powerful, awesome resurrected Jesus that John witnessed in Revelation 1:12–18. We have to restore our awe for Him. We also need to develop this same edge that refuses to shrink back from whatever comes our way.

Jesus is the all-powerful creator of the universe, the King of kings, and His Spirit lives in you and me! Don’t lose touch with His Spirit or the phenomenal power He wants to bring you and others through you.
