What Jesus did for you

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2

Corinthians 10:4–5 (NKJV)

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been discussing what Jesus accomplished for us. Today I want you to really think about Him. Think about the fact that His death, resurrection and ascension made a way for you to live your life free from shame and condemnation.

In fact, whenever you begin to focus on your inadequacies and shortcomings, switch to thinking about God’s promises.

This is what our verse today means

when it says to take your thoughts into captivity to the obedience of Christ. Taking your thoughts captive isn’t about trying not to avoid certain thoughts. The more you focus on avoiding those thoughts, the more you’ll think about them! Instead,

focus on the promises you have in Christ.

If a condemning thought comes up, remind yourself that you’re a member of God’s family, not because of your obedience, but because of Christ’s obedience. In Him, you have the right to a life filled with laughter, health, peace, and joy.

Yes, ask God for forgiveness when you’ve done wrong, but know that because of Christ’s obedience, you’ll always be forgiven. You don’t have to wait until your life is perfectly cleaned up to go to God for help. Come as you are. His power is always available to help you through.

You can pray boldly every day because you don’t have to earn the right to ask God for anything. Jesus earned it all.
