For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
Romans 6:14 (NKJV)
Understanding grace is a much better motivator against sin than fear or guilt.
Some think that grace is so freeing that it can cause people to run to sin. Actually, the opposite is true.
Think about it. What motivates a husband
not to abuse his spouse? Is it because he fears
the punishment or because the Bible says
not to? Maybe…but in a healthy relationship,
he treats his wife with kindness and respect because he loves her and wants the best for her! His decision is based on integrity and on the relationship he has with her, not on fear and guilt.
The same is true when you have a relationship with God.
In fact, as you begin to realize who you are in Christ, sin loses its power. When you start to understand how much He loves you, you realize that God has provided a healthy and more fulfilling way for you to meet every desire you have. In Him, you also have the power to live His way.
Sin slowly loses its lustre because, instead of meeting your desires with bad habits or sinful ways, you discover that you can have something much better: a life filled with peace, joy and fulfillment that is beyond what you could have ever imagined!
Besides, sin brings destruction, even though the destruction doesn’t come from God.
The truth for you as a believer is that the devil is defeated. You are a new creation in Christ who is loved by a Father God who always wantsthebestforyou. LetthisrealizationempoweryoutoliveHisway, because it is so much better than any alternative.
