JESUS’ WORK IS DONE

So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

John 19:30 (NKJV)

We’ve been on a series about what Jesus accomplished for us over the last few days, and one thing that is very important to understand about is this. The work that Jesus did is finished.

When believers think that they somehow have to earn the right to God’s blessings, it’s as if they’re trying to finish Jesus’ work. They know that Jesus ensured their sins could be forgiven and they could have a relationship with God, but forget that Jesus didn’t stop there.

Jesus also took the sin nature of mankind, along with the curse that went with it. And because He fully purchased us back and we have the nature of God, God isn’t holding anything back from us. He’s not waiting for us to earn a thing. Jesus already paid the full price for us, so through Christ we’re free to enjoy every promise and every good thing!

You don’t need to approach God desperately with tears and pleading to try to elicit some sort of response from Him through pity. Faith is what brings results—not tears. And being extra good for a week doesn’t add up to a thimbleful of grace.

Simply believe in the righteousness Jesus earned for you through His death and resurrection. You may be unworthy of it, but your worthiness is irrelevant. You don’t need to earn it. You just turn to Christ and remember that His work is finished, and He wants you to reap the benefits.
