Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)
According to our verse today, you have the ability to cast your cares and worries away. More accurately, you don’t just cast them away; you give them to God, and you don’t have to worry about them anymore because you can trust Him. He cares so much for you.
When a father cares for his son, he looks after him and protects him. That son trusts his dad completely. You’ve probably seen dads throwing their kids high in the air. That child has no fear; he fully trusts his dad to catch him. That’s the kind of relationship God wants to have with you—one where you trust Him completely.
Before you can trust God, however, you have to let go of the fear that He won’t catch you when you fall.
You can find the phrase “fear not” in the Bible approximately 80 times. Other “fear not” equivalents such as “do not be afraid,” “do not fear,” and “be not afraid” are used another thirty times or so. It’s pretty clear that God doesn’t want us to live fear-filled, stressed out lives.
Although you can find a ton of books on stress management that have good advice, God doesn’t tell us to manage our fear. He says “fear not.”
Children trust so easily, but if you’ve been around a while, you may have been hurt a few times in life. It may seem impossible for you to completely trust God. Remember, Jesus said, “All things are possible to him who believes.” You really can let go of fear and trust God with your problems.
Cast your cares on Him and trust Him to take care of you. You’ll still need to keep doing what you can do, but you can trust God to do what you can’t.
