Run hard and fast in the faith. Seize the eternal life, the life you were called to, the life you so fervently embraced in the presence of so many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:11–12 (MSG)
It’s up to you to seize the kind of life you want.
Most people think that the eternal life mentioned in today’s verses refer to Heaven, but it’s also referring to your quality of life here on earth. So when it says to “lay hold on eternal life” (KJV), it’s also talking about the here and now.
Notice it doesn’t say you should hope for this life. It doesn’t even say to pray for this life, although we know that prayer is powerful. It says to lay hold of the life you want to live.
What kind of life are you to take hold of? You can live life filled with purpose and passion, with your eyes lit up and with the heart of a champion!
If things don’t go the way you want them to, you can push through. Laying hold of this life will sometimes require you to trade what’s comfortable and easy for what’s uncomfortable and takes work. But you’re empowered to do it!
No matter what, live with purpose. For example, you may find purpose in your career by financing the Kingdom of God, raising up leaders or reaching out to the people in your sphere of influence. Can you still take holidays? Of course! Enjoy fun with friends? You bet! Have great hobbies? Absolutely! This life is about really living…but it’s about purpose too.
Don’t lose sight of the cause—Jesus’ cause. Run hard and fast, with passion and a sense of urgency. As you do, you’ll take hold of the kind of life you want to live.
