What Are You Living For?

So he answered and said, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’” Luke 10:27 (NKJV)

If we’re not careful, everything in our lives can become self-focused. We get focused on our success, our desires, our goals. The truth is that the most depressing topic you’ll ever have on your mind is you.

If you don’t believe me, try asking yourself five times a day, “Am I happy?” It’s the fastest trip to feeling depressed, because your mind automatically looks for the negative.

In today’s passage we find the meaning of life that goes beyond ourselves: love God and love others. Jesus said in verse 28, “Do this and you will live.”

What’s interesting is He didn’t say know this and you will live. Today, we often have a cerebral approach to God’s Word. But the life of a believer isn’t something we just acknowledge mentally. We’re called to act! We will not fulfill our purpose unless we pursue love in the way God outlines for us in His Word. As we recognize how much God loves us, we begin to love Him back. This love expresses itself in action as we turn around to value and serve others.

Let’s pursue a life of love! Make it your first priority every day to get filled up with God’s love for you, then look for opportunities to pour it into others’ lives. That’s where we’ll find incredible purpose, joy and significance. One day, you’ll be able to look back on your life and realize you’ve left behind the greatest legacy: relationships.
