But grow in grace (undeserved favor, spiritual strength) and recognition and knowledge and understanding of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (the Messiah). 2 Peter 3:18 (AMPC)
Over the last few days we’ve been discussing God’s favour on your life as a believer. So…if you already have God’s favour on your life and there’s nothing you can do to earn it, why does our verse today say that you need to grow in favour?
What this verse is really saying is that you can grow in your experience of God’s favour.
Growing in favour doesn’t mean you get more power, ability or provision from God. God has already given every member of His family all of the favour He could ever give. But you can increase your experience of God’s favour by believing and receiving it.
Now, I’m not saying that you have to work up a greater level of belief. Sometimes we assume that to experience God’s promises or His blessings we have to build up our faith to a certain level to receive what we’re believing for. If we need to get over a cold or flu, a certain amount of faith is required. But if we want to believe to be healed of stage four cancer, we’ll need a lot more faith. This is the wrong way to look at it.
It’s not that you need to work up an amount of faith that is proportionate to your problem. You just need to believe in God’s grace—His undeserved favour! Believing that God’s favour is yours covers everything!
It’s as Jesus said, you “become what you believe” (Matthew 9:29, The Message). So believe that God’s favour is yours, and you’ll increase your experience of it. It all starts with choosing the right focus.
