Take heed to yourselves and be on your guard, lest your hearts be overburdened and depressed (weighed down) with…worldly worries and cares pertaining to [the business of] this life. Luke 21:34 (AMPC)
Living in a constant state of stress does damage to our lives (which isn’t news to anyone). Worry and stress took their toll even in Biblical times, overburdening people’s lives until they couldn’t function properly.
Jesus taught about this problem. When you read our verse today, it may sound like Jesus is telling you not to get too busy because having too many things to do leads to stress. This can be true; we all have to prioritize and use time management skills to make sure we don’t overdo it. But what Jesus was really saying was that you have to guard yourself against getting weighed down by the worries and cares of this world.
You see, stress doesn’t necessarily come from having too much to do. It comes from thoughts of worry and anxiety about what you have to do.
The good news is that you aren’t facing life alone. When you made the decision to follow Jesus and asked Him to come into your life, the Bible says that He actually began to live inside you. Wherever you go, He’s there with you, strengthening you and empowering you to overcome whatever comes your way. But if you forget He’s even there, you won’t experience His strength and power.
Today is the day to get reconnected. Spend some quiet time with your Father God today. Build your relationship with Him. His strength is yours as well as His phenomenal power that is available to help you rise above every challenge you face.
