You will know the truth, and that truth will give you freedom. John 8:32 (VOICE)
Is there a clear path for us to become the person we’ve always dreamed of—a person who walks in joy, self-control, peace, and all the fruit of the Spirit?
The path is laid out in Galatians 5:22–23, where it talks about the fruit of the Spirit. These characteristics are not developed through self-help or by just thinking about them. They are born out of our recreated spirit, made alive in the Spirit of God.
Many go through life lost to addictions or emotions. But having a relationship with God and getting into His Word changes everything! We discover freedom from addictions and a supernatural ability to handle the stresses we face.
The difference is that we’re no longer alone, relying only on our own strength. Realizing and believing who we are in Christ is everything!
After all, what does today’s verse say? If you ramp up your self-discipline, it will set you free? No. Self-discipline certainly takes us places, but it’s the truth that sets us free. Then we are empowered to say, “I don’t want this drug anymore,” or “I’m tired of screaming at my spouse. I don’t need this hateful anger spewing out of me whenever I disagree with someone.”
Our spirit bears the fruit of what we feed it. Getting God’s truths cemented in our heart—His promises (peace, protection, strength), realizing how incredibly loved we are (beyond measure), and knowing who we belong to (we’re His kids)—grows the fruit of the Spirit.
As we develop a relationship with Him, we begin to rise up, realizing that becoming the person we dream of starts and ends with Jesus.
