Who Am I?

Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. Galatians 4:7 (NKJV)

We lose sight of our true worth when we focus on the wrong identity.

Let’s say that a man gets a job washing cars at a dealership. He shows up daily to work in his coveralls and rubber boots like the rest of the crew, enjoying camaraderie and friendship. Then one day he gets promoted to the parts department, receives a raise and now is expected to come to work in a dress shirt and tie.

The first day he shows up dressed for his new position, his former colleagues might comment, “Shirt and tie? Who do you think you are?” Those coworkers define him by his old position, and he will have to combat this in order to keep moving forward. What’s interesting is studies show that many people struggle to transition. To change and grow, many feel they need to leave their current environment because the people around them can’t see past who they used to be.

Let’s make sure we don’t hold people back but instead encourage our friends and family to rise up and grow into who they are. When they dream big, we can be the biggest support they could hope for!

The truth is, we’re all fearfully and wonderfully created (Psalm 139:14) and are designed to ride upon the high places of this earth (Isaiah 58:14). Our worth and identity shouldn’t be rooted in who others say we are; but rather in who God says we are! (Galatians 4:7) God is the source of our true identity and worth, and that’s more powerful than anything else!
