What’s Your Calling?

And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19 (NKJV)

Have you ever worried that you’re missing God’s call on your life?

Sometimes we think our calling only refers to our vocation or career, and that is one definition of calling. Let’s refer to this as our individual calling. However, another definition is described in today’s verse, and it refers to the call that’s on every believer: to follow Christ, to reach people who don’t know Him, and to build His church.

Now, this doesn’t mean we’re all called to become pastors or missionaries. God wants to use your individual calling (the specific dreams and giftings He’s placed within you) to help you walk out that greater call (to further His Kingdom). In other words, He can use you to reach others as you pursue growing the unique, beautiful gifts He’s placed within you.

As believers, we are the church, and Jesus said that He’s building His church and even the gates of Hell won’t prevail against it (Matthew 16:18). We have the gift of Jesus inside us that’s meant to be shared with the world! Through our interests and abilities, as we follow our individual calling, we can become like a conduit to bring people to Christ.

Continually trusting in God and pursuing this greater calling allows Holy Spirit to lead you to places you’ve only dreamed you could go. I’m not saying life will be perfect or problem-free, but it will be an adventure! Keep following Jesus and stay close to Him. That way, you’ll never lose sight of the big-picture call on your life, or the One who’s calling you.
