EVERYTHING IS ABOUT JESUS

For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

1 Corinthians 2:2 (NKJV)

As you read the Bible, it is vital you understand that everything must be taken through Jesus’ finished work of the cross.

Paul wrote of the importance of Jesus Christ in 1 Corinthians 2:2. He wrote, “For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (NKJV).

What was Paul talking about? He wasn’t saying that he only taught people about Jesus’ crucifixion. What he meant was that everything he ever taught had to go through the truth of what Jesus accomplished for us. In other words, every Old Testament

principle has to be filtered through the fact that as believers we are now right with God in Christ. If we’ve accepted Christ, we have His nature. As He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17).

Some Christians believe that the curse mentioned in Deuteronomy 28:15–68 is still for us today. They believe that we experience the negative consequences mentioned in these verses if we aren’t perfect at following God’s rules.

This kind of teaching can seem right at first; however, we don’t live in Old Testament times. Jesus took our curse (Galatians 3:13). As believers, we no longer have the nature of sin in us, so that curse is not for us. We have the nature of God and we’re in His family.

When you read verses like Deuteronomy 28:15, which talks about the curse you earn for disobedience, don’t forget to take it through the reality of what Jesus has done. Ask yourself, “Does this still hold true for me today, considering what Jesus did for me?”
