The Purpose Of Your Prosperity

Leon FontaineDevoted

Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God. 2 Corinthians 9:11 (NLT)

When you study people who are fulfilled and happy, you’ll always find someone who is generous. They may not even have much to give, but they know that every little bit counts, and they’re always looking for ways to bless people.

God has placed a call on your life to increase and succeed. In yesterday’s devotional, we saw that God wants us to enjoy the fruit of our labour (Ecclesiastes 2:24). But there is an even greater purpose on our lives: to advance His Kingdom.

Just like there is a kingdom of light, there is also a kingdom of darkness upon this planet. Emergency workers and first responders have no problem believing that evil is real. They see firsthand what is going on in the gutters of North America and other parts of the world. When you hear what takes place, you almost can’t keep your breakfast down.

But all it takes for evil to rise up is for good people to do nothing (summarizing a quote from Edmund Burke). Deep within us is the sense that we cannot live our lives only looking after ourselves. There is work to be done and a harvest to bring in! We have a world to reach with the message of Jesus Christ.

James 2:4 teaches that faith without works is dead. Works in this verse simply means corresponding action, so faith without corresponding actions is dead. If we say we are followers of Christ, let’s decide to be people who are generous. Let’s put our faith into action! Look for every opportunity to give and get involved, and be part of building the kingdom like never before!
