Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch. Matthew 15:14 (NKJV)
It’s almost always a bad idea to listen to the crowd for wisdom.
A crowd is often full of negative talk, which can cause a difficult situation or trying time to deteriorate rapidly. In times like these, God often raises up a leader whose ears and heart are inclined toward Him first and not the crowd, so that the Kingdom can advance. There are so many examples of this throughout the Bible.
For instance, in Exodus 12:37-38, it says God had to raise up Moses to free over a million of His people who were trapped in a slavery-mindset. He raised up Joshua to lead those same people’s descendants into the Promised Land. God used Gideon to rally them when they were being oppressed by the Midianites, and Peter and Paul to set the direction after Jesus ascended back into Heaven.
You see, the crowd doesn’t always have the right answer, so why do we tend to listen to them?
The crowd is not always a group of people. “The crowd” may represent where we came from, our cultural background or how we were raised. Studies show that most of us tend to stay at par with our parents’ lifestyle, because our beliefs have been indoctrinated from childhood. But what if God has bigger plans for you that the crowd can’t appreciate?
Regardless of who the crowd is in your life, remember God’s plans for you will always be onward and upward. The crowd may get it wrong, but God never does. Follow His guidance and rise above!
