Faith Is Not A Feeling

The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! Matthew 6:22–23 (NKJV)

Faith is not a feeling. It’s also not something that just happens. Faith is a process, and you can make it happen.

This faith process is not about begging, praying and hoping God will give us what we want. No, God has already given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, 2 Peter 1:3 says, so we need to learn to work the process of faith.

The faith process starts with a decision about focus. What you choose to focus on will determine whether or not you develop faith.

Some love watching CNN all day, which I like to call “Constant Negative News,” and others love watching horror movies. Then they wonder why they can’t shake the fear and anxiety they experience.

The Bible says that if your eye is single, then is your whole body filled with light. But if your focus is dark, your whole body will be filled with that darkness. “Garbage in, garbage out” is how it works. They are planting fear into their hearts through what they choose to focus on.

On the other hand, when you begin to focus on God’s Word and His promises, you plant faith into your heart.

Faith is not a level of emotion you work up. It’s a deep, heart-level belief that is formed over time through repeated exposure to God’s Word and His promises. This is the process involved in building faith.
