GOD’S WORD CHOKES OUT MISBELIEFS

“Should we pull out the weeds?” they asked. “No,” he replied, “you’ll uproot the wheat if you do.” Matthew 13:28–29 (NLT)

Have you ever had something happen in the morning that seemed to make your day take a turn for the worst?

Maybe you were almost out the door when one of the kids spilled grape juice all over you…and you were wearing your favourite shirt. Or maybe after getting into an argument, you found yourself saying to the person involved, “Thanks a lot! Now you’ve ruined my day!”

The truth is that no one can ruin your emotional state for the rest of the day. You can control your emotions because they come from within.

Yes, we get angry at times and sometimes we lose our cool. I’m not perfect either, but we have to realize that the beliefs we hold inside determine how we react to situations and deal with life. This is why it is so important to get these beliefs from God’s Word.

Now, we all hold misbeliefs—many we are unaware of. It can be tempting to want to find the quickest way to discover these lies, but is this really the best approach?

God’s Word warns about this approach in Matthew 13. Trying to dig into your belief systems to determine which are true and which are not can be so confusing that you end up doing more harm than good. What I’ve found over the years is that as you keep planting God’s Word in your heart, you deal with these misbeliefs one at a time. If you keep at it, the lies are choked out by the truth.

Just keep studying God’s Word every day and it will get into your heart and begin to change your life.
