Jesus said, “How can I describe the Kingdom of God? What story should I use to illustrate it? It is like a mustard seed planted in the ground. It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of all garden plants; it grows long branches, and birds can make nests in its shade.” Mark 4:30–32 (NLT)
Consistent meditation on God’s Word throws the enemy a one-two punch. One, it produces a spiritual harvest in our lives, and two, Satan can’t stop it.
In Mark chapter 4, Jesus shared a parable to explain the power of ongoing Biblical meditation. In the first part of the chapter, He talked about a farmer who planted a crop. Some of the seeds (God’s Word) fell on a path (an unprepared heart) that birds (the enemy) quickly swept in and ate (kept from putting down roots). However, later in the chapter, Jesus described a seed that grew into such a huge tree that all the birds could do was build a nest in it!
What happened? The person who heard the Word meditated on it! You see, meditation is what plants the seed of God’s truths in your heart where it begins to take root. From there, the seed sprouts, grows into a sapling and eventually becomes a huge tree.
Jesus’ analogy shows the more you meditate on the Word, the more confident your faith grows in God’s promises. As that happens, your faith becomes so deeply anchored that no storm can uproot it. No circumstance can stop your joy, your healing or your peace.
Thanks to meditation, a seed of truth can grow into a belief so strong and unstoppable that the enemy can no longer steal it. That’s the powerful effect of Biblical meditation!
