My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. Proverbs 4:20–21 (AMPC)
Have you been feeling washed out lately? Feeling like your prayers aren’t going anywhere or that you’re running low on love and joy?
Although life has its ups and downs, Solomon points out that an important way to help us stay full of God’s life is to meditate consistently on His Word. That’s what Solomon meant by keeping it in our eyes, ears and centre of our hearts. Why is meditating important?
Because your heart is like a garden, and meditation prepares your heart’s soil. It removes misbeliefs about your identity, rips out misguided ideas about God and bulldozes lies. That clears room for God’s supernatural seed to take root and His life to start flowing into you.
You see, meditation isn’t mystical. It simply means to focus on something. The truth is, meditation is a concept you’re already familiar with. For example, let’s say somebody walked by me and said, “Hey, Leon, nice tie.” I might think, “He chuckled when he said that. What did he mean? Have I got ketchup on it? Is it hanging crooked?” Now I’m meditating on his words. That is how you allow thoughts and ideas to penetrate your heart deeper and deeper until they begin to form beliefs. But the correct beliefs don’t just show up on their own. It takes intentional work to plant and nurture them.
Today, pick one verse and reflect on how it applies to you. You’ll be amazed how this simple practice will change your life!
