They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?” Luke 24:32 (NLT)
Are you passionate about learning? As a young student, I paid more attention to sports and girls than academics. But things changed when I became a paramedic. Part of my training involved riding along in the ambulance and observing the paramedics in action. I remember going to horrific accident scenes and feeling helpless as I watched the trained paramedics rush out to scoop up broken bodies.
The pain I witnessed impacted me so much that I went back to my textbooks with a renewed motivation to learn. I even began pulling off A-pluses in most of my exams. Why? Because I never wanted to be caught at an accident and not know how to help people. Ever since then, I’ve had a passion for knowledge in many areas.
You see, passion sets knowledge on fire and makes us hungry to learn.
In Luke 24, two disciples were walking on the road to Emmaus when the risen Jesus appeared to them. Seeing that they were deeply discouraged about the death of their Saviour, Jesus began to go through Scripture and explain God’s plan for the Messiah. Finally, the men’s eyes were opened and they realized who they were talking to! Afterward, they asked each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us?” Jesus’ passionate teaching of the Word had ignited truth and knowledge in them.
If you want a greater desire for God’s Word, begin to cultivate a passion for your relationship with God. Imagine the new levels He wants to take you, and get excited about what He wants to teach you!
