I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:35 (NLT)
When I was young, my mom baked 24–30 loaves of bread per week to feed our family of seven. I can still remember like it was yesterday. I would walk through the front door of our house and be enveloped in the aroma of freshly baked bread. We would slather butter on thick slabs of warm bread until it melted and ran down our fingers. My four brothers and I could easily polish off two or three loaves in one sitting.
Nothing tastes better than good food when you’re hungry. But you also experience other forms of hunger that need to be satisfied. Every part of you has an appetite:
- Your soul: which includes your mind, has an appetite for absorbing information.
- Your body: craves food, water and touch.
- Your spirit: which has a craving for God, that’s satisfied when you spend time with Him.
If you don’t feed your mind knowledge and keep it sharp, it begins to slow without food, your body becomes fragile and frail. And without God, your spirit also weakens to the point where you cannot sense His presence anymore or experience His peace.
Have you been feeding your spirit on a daily basis? If you’re stressed out and you can’t seem to relax, maybe you have been forgetting to fill yourself up on God’s presence every day. Take time to worship and talk to Him today. Satisfy the craving you have for more of God.
