And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28 (NLT)
Let’s pretend that you love golf and you have a chance to hang out with the world’s top ranked golfer. As you head out onto the course, he offers to give you a few tips to improve your game. Would you say to him, “Stop telling me what to do. I’ll play the way I want to!” Anyone who wants to get better at golf would be crazy to respond this way. Yet we do this with God all the time.
God wants to show you how to build the best life you can have—a marriage that will rock your world, kids that will honour you and live with love and laughter all their lives, a phenomenal career and great friendships. He’s the expert, but we often ignore His direction. When we learn Biblical principles that were designed to help us live well, we even accuse Him of trying to ruin our fun.
God is always for your good.
He helps you to be a better friend, spouse, child, student, employee and parent. He causes all things to work together for good in your life even when you’ve made mistakes. Your missteps still have consequences, but He helps you deal with the collateral damage.
Don’t serve Jesus because you are afraid He’s going to hit you with lightning if you don’t live right. Realize that He loves you. Listen to the advice He has for your life. Serve him because He loves you more than you will ever know.
