Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 1 Corinthians 14:1 (NKJV)
The word “prophecy” simply means to declare the will of God.
Prophesy isn’t about getting holy goosebumps or acting strangely. When you find a promise in God’s Word and you declare it over your future, you are prophesying. You don’t have to wait for someone to speak something over you or for God to drop a picture of the future into your mind. You can develop that picture by reading His Word!
When you declare, Generations of my family will benefit from the blessing that’s on everything I put my hand to in my career, you’re prophesying. If you declare, My marriage is blessed with romance, intimacy, laughter and love, that’s a prophesy. If you declare that your children will be taught of the Lord and great will be their peace, you’re prophesying.
Actually, this process of declaring what is yours is vital. You see, your mouth determines your future.
God spoke the universe into existence. When God said, “Let there be light,” light had no choice but to be, because God said so. You have been given a similar power; you can verbally claim God’s promises here on earth. You can give voice to God’s Word, and it’s powerful. In fact, Psalm 103:20 says that angels obey the voice of His Word!
You can give voice to God’s Word, so speak it over your life! You don’t have to do it in front of your doctor, banker or the people you work with, but make sure you’re claiming God’s promises in your daily quiet time with Him.
