Resisting Like A Navy Seal

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Philippians 2:5 (NLT)

What do Jesus and Navy Seals share in common? An attitude of never submitting to the enemy.

One year I spoke at a leadership conference near a Navy Seal base, and afterward I had the opportunity to talk to several Seals who attended. One of them explained his job as a sniper. His sole focus was the mission, and he defied anything that distracted him from it.

He’d lay in his own bodily fluids, suffering through itchiness, stench and bugs crawling on him. He’d wait in freezing, leech-filled water up to his neck for hours without moving an inch. How? As a sniper, he’d been trained to withstand anything to complete the mission that had been entrusted to him.

Navy Seals training produces resistance to anything that distracts or tempts them to submit before the job is done. They’re trained to maintain focus and ignore or fight through trials for the cause of the mission. Their ingrained mental attitude in combat is to never submit, to never quit, to never give up or give in.

As believers, imagine if we adopted a Navy Seal mentality for our lives! Imagine standing up and declaring, “I’m serving God relentlessly with a purpose. I will never quit. I will never give in. I refuse to accept anything that comes against the goal of me fulfilling my life mission for God!”

Jesus lived His life this way. He never submitted to the enemy. When He resisted Satan, He won (Matthew 4:10–11). In fact, He completed His mission and destroyed all of the devil’s works! (See 1 John 3:8.)

As believers, we’re to hold the same attitude as Jesus. We’re designed to win every battle we face. Refuse to accept anything that says otherwise!
