A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. Matthew 12:35 (NKJV)
If you have money in the bank, it’s likely because you’ve made deposits over time. This also holds true of the treasure in your heart.
You have a treasure chest of beliefs within your heart. Some of these beliefs are positive, life-giving and true. They are good treasure. Others are based on a lie and they bring you pain or they limit you in life—these are evil treasures in your heart.
These beliefs were deposited in your heart over time. Some were deposited there by others when you were a child. Others you learned through experience. And some you’ve planted there by reading God’s Word. The good deposits in your heart bring forth good things and the negative deposits in your heart bring forth negative things.
Now, let’s take it a little further. World-changing deposits in your heart bring forth world-changing things and mediocre deposits bring forth mediocre things. Defeated deposits bring forth defeated things and perverted deposits bring forth perverted things.
As you can see, what you deposit in your heart is vital.
Even if most of the beliefs in your heart were deposited by others without your awareness, the reality is that you can begin to change what your heart holds today. This is really exciting because it means you can change your entire life!
You may have to work through things that have happened in your past, but they don’t have to determine what you believe. Keep depositing the truth—what God says—in your heart, and eventually His promises will begin to direct your life instead of your past.
