The righteous should choose his friends carefully, For the way of the wicked leads them astray. Proverbs 12:26 (NKJV)
When you choose the company you keep, you choose the direction your life will go. Do you know where you’re heading?
Some tolerate friends who act like dead weight in life. Although the friendship holds them back, they struggle to cut the rope. Sometimes this is because they have a martyr complex. Other times, they just don’t see that they have the choice to confront, distance themselves or end the relationship.
Every person you enter into a relationship with has the power to influence you. This emphasizes the importance of selecting close friends wisely.
Not all friendships bring good things into our lives. We need to choose our friends carefully. According to Proverbs 12:26, we can’t be friends with every person who shows interest in us. 1 Corinthians 15:33 (NKJV) puts it this way, “Do not be deceived: ‘Evil company corrupts good habits.’”
We all tend to think that we are immune to influence by others. We say to ourselves, I know better. What they do won’t affect me. In reality, we are all impressionable to a certain extent. Your heart absorbs whatever you expose it to, whether you are conscious of it or not.
If you spend time with the wrong type of friend you will be influenced negatively. Some so-called friends are more like enemies—they can destroy your life. Others propel you forward. Choose carefully.
