Get A New Point Of View

But David encouraged and strengthened himself in the Lord his God. 1 Samuel 30:6 (AMPC)

Do you ever dread menial tasks? Most often the problem is not actually the task. It is your point of view.

For example, if you dread meetings at work, your negative thoughts will cause you to feel drained. Instead, you could change your point of view so each meeting becomes an opportunity to influence others for the better. Instead of counting the minutes until it is over, you could practice giving sincere compliments and gaining influence by making people feel a bit more positive about their day. As they become drawn towards your great attitude, you may actually be able to use your influence to help them move closer to God.

A new point of view can give you a sense of purpose. Dread is replaced with excitement as you look forward to the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life. It doesn’t really matter what menial task you are facing; you can find something of greater purpose to focus on.

If you find that your thoughts are taking a dive towards the negative, re-frame your situation from a positive standpoint. Highlight the deeper purpose and you will feel lifted and motivated to push through anything. You will encourage yourself, like David did.

In 1 Samuel 30, David faced an impossible situation. Instead of choosing to focus on the odds against him, he encouraged himself in the Lord his God (v. 6, KJV). When you frame what you need to do positively, no task is impossible. No job or position is without purpose.
