Worthy Of A Fight

Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you. Galatians 5:1 (MSG)

Freedom is never free. Someone always pays the price for it.

Because of the sacrifice of many incredibly brave and courageous men and women, we can live our lives as we choose and are free to become whatever we want to become. I am incredibly grateful for the freedom we have that allows us to believe what we choose to believe.

I never want to take for granted that this freedom was paid for with lives. Although there’s nothing beautiful about war, I have great respect for the phenomenal sacrifice men and women make to fight for a cause worth fighting for.

I once spoke with an amazing young man. His difficulty with English prompted me to ask how long he had been in Canada and what he thought of it. His face lit up as he spoke excitedly about how much he loves Canada. When he had finished, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride about being Canadian.

It’s easy to become familiar with what we have. When someone comes from a country that lacks freedom and safety, they are in awe of the opportunities we take for granted as Canadians. It’s not a perfect country, but it’s worth fighting for.

Everything of worth requires a fight. Let’s refuse to sit back and let injustice happen around us. Let’s fight—both to better ourselves and the world around us.
