What do you mean, “If I can?” Jesus asked. Anything is possible if a person believes. Mark 9:23 (NLT)
Mark 9 tells the story of a man who came to Jesus with a son who was horribly afflicted. To this father’s horror, his son had thrown himself into water and fire numerous times. Frustrated and desperate, the father said to Jesus, Have mercy on us and help us, if you can (v. 22). Jesus replied, What do you mean, ‘If I can’? Then He added, Anything is possible if a person believes (v. 23, NLT).
God always wants to help. The question is: do we believe?
It’s not enough to just mentally agree with a promise in God’s Word. It is the beliefs of your heart that really matter. You can tell when something you believe. has reached that deeper heart-level when a feeling is attached to the thought. For example, if a thought pops into your mind that says, “Everyone is smarter than me. I’m stupid,” and you instantly feel defeated, that is a heart belief and it limits you in life.
Your heart can’t discern if something is true or false. Your heart grows what has been planted in it—good or bad. This is why it is so important to intentionally plant God’s promises in your heart. There is no way that you can be aware of all the beliefs you hold on a heart level, but when you read and study God’s promises on a continual basis, you ensure that you always have a good crop of God’s best to harvest.
Miracles aren’t that elusive. To experience more of them in your life, intentionally plant God’s promises in your heart by reading or listening to God’s Word and thinking about it until it changes what you believe.
