For though the Lord is high, yet has He respect to the lowly [bringing them into fellowship with Him]; but the proud and haughty He knows and recognizes [only] at a distance.Psalm 138:6 (AMP)
People often say things like: “I want to be the next American Idol, Joyce Meyer, Billy Graham…” Although it sounds good and certainly that may be God’s plan for them, God is not interested in our egos.
He is interested in our hearts. We need to be willing to serve and do what needs to be done even if we never gain a ‘great’ position.
When people in the early church went after power and position, they were dealt with severely. One wanted to buy power, to which Peter replied, To hell with your money! And you along with it. (Acts 8:20- 23, MSG).
Another know-it-all tried to divert Paul and Barnabas as they shared the Gospel. Paul looked at him intently and said, you will be struck blind. You will not see the sunlight for some time. (Acts 13:10-11, NLT). The man actually went blind for a time because of his pride and deceitful lust for power.
According to James 4:6 (NKJV), God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. It’s important to keep a close tab on pride. The last thing you want is to be resisted in your efforts by Holy Spirit!
Jesus told us that If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all. (Mark 9:35, NKJV). Simply serve others and trust God to place you where He needs you.
