Wait On God

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)

Do you ever feel used or unappreciated? Many pray, “Lord use me,” and later they feel used. At first, they are excited to be serving others for God but after a period of time their energy seems to run out.

Often the reason we struggle is that we forget to wait on God.

To wait on God may not mean exactly what we think, however. In the original language, the word ‘wait’ means ‘to look for, hope and expect.’ Waiting doesn’t mean that you sit around doing nothing. Quite the opposite is true. You are active in serving while confidently expecting God’s help.

Isaiah 40:31 tells us that when you wait on God your strength is renewed. When you think about it, trying to do things for others on your own is draining because it is difficult to hope for a good outcome without backup. When things go wrong, you can get discouraged and feel exhausted. On the other hand, when you trust God to help, you have ongoing optimism even through struggles. No matter what happens, you know you will win because the creator of the universe is on your side. If that’s not energizing, I don’t know what is!

Do you wait on God, confidently expecting His help? Put your hope in God, expect His help and spread your wings to soar like an eagle. In other words, trust that He has your back and press on!
