Finding Self-Esteem

So he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.” Judges 6:15 (NKJV)

Gideon, one of the most courageous leaders in the Old Testament, started out as a weak, timid person who was practically fearful of his own shadow. He suffered from low self-esteem and didn’t think he would ever amount to much. When God told him he would save Israel, he couldn’t believe it!

Can you relate to Gideon? Does your self-esteem ever limit your potential?

Do you believe that you can only do what you have done in the past or do you focus on what you can do in the future through God? Does your self-image come from what others see in you or what God sees?

Gideon’s life completely changed when he put his own beliefs about himself on the back-burner and trusted God. God saw Gideon for the capable warrior that he was, not the defeated, fearful man Gideon believed himself to be. Choosing to rely on God for strength and courage, Gideon stopped limiting God’s ability to work in his life. He gained the capacity to claim victory in battle and lead an entire nation of people.

Look beyond everything else; see yourself as God sees you.

You are a talented, gifted, lovable person with the capacity to become a great leader, have an amazing family and be a blessing to everyone. Etch that image into your heart; it’s how God sees you!
