You are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. Colossians 2:10 (NKJV)
What does today’s verse mean when it says that you are complete in Christ?
When I’m trying to understand a verse, I often find it helpful to read the verses around it and read it in a few different Bible translations. If you read verses 8 and 9, it talks about how we can get off track with “empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense” (NLT). The Message version puts it this way: “But that’s not the way of Christ. Everything of God gets expressed in him, so you can see and hear him clearly. You don’t need a telescope, a microscope, or a horoscope to realize the fullness of Christ, and the emptiness of the universe without him. When you come to him, that fullness comes together for you, too. His power extends over everything.”
This is a powerful piece of scripture. First, if we want to know what God is like, we can look at Jesus, realizing that He’s not unreachable or beyond our understanding. Then, we need to realize that He is within us. We can realize the fullness of Christ, because all that He is—His power and ability, and all that He has earned—has come together in US. We are empowered with His might. We have the mind of Christ. We’re entitled to every reward He has earned!
You are complete in Christ! You have no need to search desperately outside of yourself, looking for meaning, significance, value, right standing with God or for supernatural help and provision. As a believer, you already have all that you need within you!
