Key To Moving Forward? Pause.

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8 (NKJV)

Today’s verse says that we make our way prosperous and have success when we meditate on God’s Word, and outlines a series of steps. First, we meditate on and speak God’s Word. Second, we apply the insights we learned. Third, we make our way prosperous and have good success.

Meditation is key, but so is the application of what we learn. Sometimes it’s easy to split our lives into neat little sections that don’t overlap. We have a work section, fun section, a home section and a God section, but we forget that we are designed to be led by the Spirit in every area of our lives. Compartmentalizing our faith doesn’t work. When we take the time to get quiet with God and we meditate on His ways, every other part of our lives gets better.

If we pursue success in a separate compartment apart from our faith, the danger is we can start to do it at the cost of our marriage, health, family, or our enjoyment of life. Don’t believe the lie that you can’t make it in business without sacrificing these things. It’s simply not true. If you’re pursuing something that requires too much of you, look for another option. Guaranteed, there is one that will allow you to have success while putting God first and having time for everyone and everything else you value.
