You Don’t Earn God’s Love

Leon FontaineDevoted

Even if the mountains heave up from their anchors, and the hills quiver and shake, I will not desert you. You can rely on My enduring love; My covenant of peace will stand forever. So says the Eternal One, whose love won’t give up on you.

Isaiah 54:10 (VOICE)

Are there conditions on God’s love?

Conditional love is only there when certain conditions are met. It’s a love that says, “I’ll love you IF…,” but God’s love is UNconditional. There are no conditions on His love. He loves you when you do good and when you do bad. He loves those who serve Him and those who don’t. His love is always there.

You may be thinking, “Well, if God loves me no matter what I do, why should I try to live right?” The truth is, we don’t live according to the principles set out in God’s Word to earn His love, blessings or anything else from Him. Those principles are there to protect us. You see, our actions have consequences here on earth. God wants to help us avoid pain and heartache, which is why He’s given us principles to follow.

In fact, the more we realize how unconditionally loved we are, the more empowered we are to do right!

The more you discover God’s love, the less you try to get that love need met elsewhere—through performance, position, perfection or achievement. You begin to develop healthier relationships with others, because you stop putting unrealistic expectations on them to fill your need for God’s unconditional love.

If you’ve been looking at your relationship with God with a “He will love me IF…” attitude, it’s time to change that to, “He loves me, period!”
