Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)
There is great power in what we say.
Today’s verse goes so far as to say that death and life are in the power of the tongue. We’ve been given the power to speak our futures into existence. But if we continually speak only worst-case scenarios, instead of speaking life into existence, we create more of what we don’t want.
I’m not saying that you should ignore your concerns. Acknowledge them and go easy on yourself, realizing that we all have fears and doubts. It’s okay to feel uncertain; just keep bringing your attention back to what you’ve been promised, and choose to speak those promises over your future.
You can begin to speak God’s truth even when it goes against what you see in your life. Let His promises paint a new picture on the canvas of your heart—a new vision for what your marriage, your relationship with your kids, your relationship with God, your career and your life could be like.
In fact, do it right now. Read 2 Corinthians 9:8–11, and let it paint a picture in your heart: “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work…. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”
Keep letting verses like this paint a new vision in your heart, and then watch as your heart begins to bring about the changes you want.
