Such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. 2 Corinthians 3:4-5 (AMPC)
Do you ever feel like you don’t have what it takes? As believers, we often place high expectations on ourselves. We think that we need to do it all, be everything to everyone, and do it all with a smile.
First of all, we need to realize that God never asked us to be all things to all people. He said that we are like parts of a body (Romans 12:4). We need to spend time in God’s Word and learn to listen to the guiding of Holy Spirit to know what to take on and what to let go.
At the same time, there are certain responsibilities we all share as Christians, but these don’t need to overwhelm us. Holy Spirit is in us, giving us the power, ability and strength we need to do whatever He has for us to do. He is “effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight” (Philippians 2:13, AMPC). You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13).
If you don’t feel like you’re strong enough to be patient, to forgive, to show love to people who frustrate you, or to overcome temptation, realize that you don’t have to be—not on your own strength. You have God’s strength in you!
Claim these promises today: “My competence comes from God. Holy Spirit is at work in me, giving me the energy, power and desire to live God’s way. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!”
