The Gospel is good news, period.
When the Gospel is preached as bad news, hope dies. We stop expecting blessings and empowerment to do good and instead just expect judgment and punishment for the mistakes we make.
“Bad news” teaching strips us of prosperity, influence and leadership because it seems impossible to get help from God. It blends the old covenant with the new, and teaches people that they have to earn God’s blessings. It says we have to clean up everything in our lives before God will bless or heal us, which means we can never expect blessings, because none of us is perfect. We come to expect punishment instead; we expect the negative.
Meanwhile, the Bible says that if you want to walk in God’s blessings, you need to believe it! Experiencing God’s blessings, goodness, healing and prosperity in your life are related to what you expect. Faith works through hope. We need to expect good things.
Today’s verse says that God generously bestows His riches on us, and it doesn’t say only with those who work hard to earn them, do good, keep all the right laws, and treat everyone well. Those are all great things to do, but we need to get back to the new covenant which is a covenant of faith, of believing.
As a believer, you can live a faith life, a life where you experience health, healing, friendship, blessing, adventure, peace and joy, and it’s going to happen by faith.
