Self-Worth Rooted In God’s Love

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. Ephesians 3:17-18

 

What’s the difference between self-worth and self-confidence?

Often we get the two confused, but in reality, they are totally different. Self-confidence comes from what you’ve done in life, your experience, your track record, your performance. True self-worth, on the other hand, comes from being rooted in God’s love for you; it’s about knowing what you are worth to him.

Being rooted and established in God’s love has an incredible effect on us. In fact, we need it. Just as a tree that is rooted in great soil grows healthy and strong, we grow when we’re rooted in God’s love.

When we begin to get rooted and grounded in God’s love by reading, meditating on and claiming his promises, something starts to change in our lives. Even when we go through trials and storms, our self-worth remains solid because we are reminded that God’s love for us never changes. Even if everyone around us seems to be in better shape and more successful, instead of becoming jealous, we can be happy for them because our self-worth is not in our appearance or our performance. Their success has no ability to affect, withhold or change God’s blessings toward us.

Has your self-confidence been shaken lately? Maybe you’ve failed at something or you’re not feeling competent in a certain area of your life because you’re trying something new. You need to know that you can still be confident in your worth. You have unmeasurable worth because the God of the universe says you do, and he loves you!
