Recharge Your Batteries

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

Over the past few days we’ve been talking about the fact that joy is in each of us as believers, and we can draw from that joy like we draw up cool, refreshing water from a well.

We can tap into this joy by spending time in God’s presence and by deciding to be joyful. However, there are several things that can get in the way of us experiencing joy that we need to become aware of.

One thing that can prevent us from experiencing joy is when we become weary in well doing.

There are several things we can do to avoid this weariness. For one, we need to avoid comparing ourselves with others, especially when it comes to what we’re doing to serve God. It’s a “Martha” thing. When Martha was slaving away in the kitchen, the only reason she became upset was because she compared her efforts to Mary’s. She was making a meal for Jesus, which was a real honour. But when she saw that Mary was just sitting around, she forgot about the joy of serving Jesus.

Another way to avoid getting weary in well doing is by remembering

to replenish ourselves. We need to realize that there’s nothing wrong with recreation time, and figure out what recharges our batteries. We can also recharge by spending time with our Father God. Even Jesus needed time away by himself. He took time to replenish himself in prayer, so we can’t expect to go day after day without doing the same.

What do you need to do today to replenish yourself?
