Instead of just focusing on the problem, realize God loves you and receive the help He provides. This will empower you to make His promises your own. Knowing you are loved and accepted by God empowers you to overcome destructive habits. You see, only Christ in you can empower you to change, and you need to know that He loves you!
Remember—God’s love for you isn’t just about your feelings. It’s not about the love you feel for Him or the tear you get in your eye when you worship. Some people spend all their time worrying about how much they love God, but they have it backward. You won’t even know how to love God until you understand how much He loves you!
To begin to understand God’s love for you, read the Bible to discover what Jesus did for us and read what God says about you. Attend a great, life-giving church that teaches you to understand how loved you are. You’ll find out how much God values you and how special you are to Him. As you focus on that love and begin to make changes, Holy Spirit in you will empower you to grow.
